How Conflixis Is Using AI to Protect Hospitals from Risky Physician Relationships

Founded in 2023 by former compliance and research professionals, Conflixis is a healthcare technology startup aimed at helping hospitals manage and mitigate the risks associated with physician-provider conflicts of interest. Aaron Narva, CEO, and Joseph Bergen, co-founder, launched the startup to address the specific challenges hospitals face in complying with regulations such as the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, which prevent medical professionals from benefiting financially in ways that could impact patient care.

Unlike traditional compliance software, Conflixis uses AI to process data from OpenPaymentsData.com, hospital records and procurement data to target high-risk interactions, allowing hospital administrators to focus on a handful of cases out of potentially thousands. By identifying cases where financial relationships may lead to unnecessary or more costly medical purchases, they not only reduce regulatory risks, but also promote operational efficiency.

The company's unique approach combines great language modeling (LLM) with its founders' deep experience in transaction monitoring. Conflixis recently raised $4.2 million in seed funding from leading venture capital firms, including Lerer Hippeau and Origin Ventures, positioning it to compete in a crowded healthcare compliance market with tools that bring investigative expertise to complex, data-rich environments.

As it grows, they aim to bring more transparency and trust to healthcare contracting, while helping hospitals make financially sound decisions.
