Wyze Labs Introduces Groundbreaking AI Video Search for Security Cameras
Wyze Labs, the Kirkland, Washington-based smart-home company, has introduced an innovative new feature that leverages artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience of its security cameras. Available to customers on the $9.99/month Cam Unlimited plan, this AI-based video search tool allows users to search for specific moments in their recordings by simply typing in a description. The company, founded in 2017 by three Amazon veterans, continues to expand its product lineup, now offering more than 70 smart home devices.
Wyze CEO Yun Zhang highlighted the impressive capabilities of the new feature, noting that users can search for very specific details, such as particular objects like garbage cans or garden tools, and even more complex queries like “a delivery guy with red roses” or “my cat in the backyard.” This advanced search functionality is made possible by a proprietary vision language model designed specifically for Wyze camera data, which the company says is two to three times faster than conventional inference engines.
This move sets them apart from competitors like Amazon's Ring, which has yet to launch a similar AI-powered video search feature. The startup has been integrating AI into its products since 2019, and this latest development marks an important milestone in its ongoing efforts to improve smart home security.
Despite past security challenges, in which some customers temporarily accessed live video from other users' cameras, Wyze has implemented robust new cloud and data security measures. Its rapid growth is underscored by its $110 million raised in 2021 and its position at #9 on the GeekWire 200 list of top startups in the Pacific Northwest.
With this new AI video search feature, they are poised to further cement their place in the smart home industry by providing users with more control and convenience in managing their security footage.
